American Eagle: Crochet Front Dress Review

This is American Eagle's Crochet Front Dress (item #0393-9117), which retails for $39.50. AE describes the dress as such:

Get Dressed. Get Crochet.

• Our softest cotton modal blend
• Crochet neckline detailing
• Slim braided racerback straps
• Hidden shelf bra
• Long and loose fit
• Skinny braided belt
• Length hits right at knees

Imported, Machine Wash
This dress is alpha-sized, and comes in this dark coral color and also in navy blue, according to online. I cannot remember if there were other colors in-store.

I honestly just tried this dress on just for the blog. It didn't do a whole lot for me on the hanger, but I thought I'd give it a try.

The dress fits true-to-size, and is a loose, casual shape. It has a rope-like belt that ties around the middle to create a little more shape on the waist. I think the dress looked slightly better in person than on the hanger. As for the crochet on the top, I don't particularly care for crochet, and I thought the crochet on the top of this dress looked a little cheap.

From the side, the dress is very shapeless. You'd have to pull the belt a bit tighter to create any waist from the side.

The back was interesting, but I still don't like the way it hangs in the back. And it's too clingy on the behind - I really dislike cotton or jersey dresses where I constantly have to check to make sure I don't have VPLs.

I could see this being a cute dress to throw on for the beach or something, but other than that, I just can't see myself wearing it. I really disliked the crochet top and the shapelessness of the dress, so I left it behind.

What do you think? Do you like this dress? Where would you wear it? What do you think of crochet?

For a dress that isn't all that well-designed, you look good in it! :)

KatyO - Thanks so much! :)

Michelle - Thank you! You probably wouldn't know it from my pictures, but I buy tons of stuff in pink - it's my favorite clothes color!
