Banana Republic: Lightweight Pants

Banana Republic is getting ready for summer by promoting their lightweight pants.  I have already picked up a pair of lightweight pants (J.Crew's Saturday pant), and was almost tempted to pick up a couple more this weekend, but was good.  I like lightweight pants, but I rarely wear them.  If it's too hot for heavy pants, I go with shorts or a skirt or dress, and if it's not, well, then I just wear regular pants.  I am not really a fan of linen pants either, as they are so wrinkly!

What do you think?  Do you own lightweight pants?  Where do you wear them?

J.Crew: Cafe Capri Pants Review (Round 2)

So, you may remember that I already tried on these pants before.  Well, I just can't get away from these pants.  Just to recap, these are item #10492, and J.Crew describes the Cafe Capri as such:
Our favorite Cafe Capri is back—updated with new waistband details. We love this pant—it's practical and effortlessly chic. Cotton with a hint of stretch. Zip fly with hook-and-bar closure. Back welt pockets. Import. Machine wash. Catalog/jcrew.com only.
  • City fit—our lowest rise.
  • Sits just above hip.
  • Fitted through hip, with a slim, straight leg.
  • 23" inseam.
My PS brought me these pants to try in this pinky-orange color (I think they are sweet papaya).  I didn't like the color much, but I decided to give the pants another try in black, as I have been looking for a nice, lightweight black pant for the summer.  These are a size 6 (as were the pink ones I tried on previously).

I think these pants fit true-to-size, but again, are a little on the slimmer size.  So if you have hips (like me), then I would recommend trying them on to see which size you like best.

I have to say, these pants are so much more flattering from the side, at least for me.  I could never wear these color pants either.  I'm sure they look great on many of you ladies, but they are just not me at all.

I did end up taking home a pair of the black capris, and I also picked up the pink ones that I reviewed before, as they were now marked down to $19.99!  I am also in love with the navy ones, and may cave and pick up a pair of those, too, but I'm debating ordering them in petite so I can enjoy some actual capris.

What do you think?  Do you like these cafe capris?  Do you like the sweet papaya color?  And just out of curiosity, are there any other shorties out there who buy capri pants to avoid buying regular pants and having them hemmed?

J.Crew: Harbour Oxford Capri Pants Review

These are J.Crew's Harbour Oxford Capri pants (item #15382), which retail for $59.50, and are numerically sized.  They are available in this indigo color, as well as khaki.  J.Crew describes the pants as such:

The cropped length is perfect for showing off the season's sandals. Made from cotton with a clean double hook-and-bar waist and cuffed hem. Belt loops. Zip fly. Slant pockets, back flap pockets. Import. Machine wash.
  • City fit—our lowest rise.
  • Sits just above hip.
  • Slim through hip and thigh, with a straight cropped leg.
  • 26 1/2" inseam
This was one of the items that I was looking for when I went to the store, but I couldn't find them.  I described them to my PS, and she pulled out some cuffed blue capri pants, which I didn't think were the Harbour Oxford Capris, because I missed the part in the online description where it said they were cuffed.

However, these are, indeed, the Harbour Oxford Capri pants.  I will say up front that they are not the same blue as pictured in the model pictures.  They are a bit darker blue, and have more of a "heather" blue appearance.

I tried these pants on in my regular J.Crew pants size, and I found that they fit true-to-size, with a teeny bit of extra room.  I will probably try them on again in a size down if I can.  The fabric was a nice, light-to-medium weight cotton, similar to linen.  It wasn't as smooth as the fabric appears to be in the pictures, but it was nice and soft, and moved nicely.

I thought these pants were just okay.  I had really liked the Harbour Oxford Capri, mainly because of the color and the appearance of the fabric, but I didn't think they were as cute in person.  I do like the cuffs on the pants, and I also like that I could buy these pants and not have to hem them, even though they are capris!  That is one advantage to being so short.  And hmm, please don't mind the belly in the picture below.  :)

I didn't take these pants home.  Sad to say, now that I know they are the pants I was looking for, I may give them another shot, but they will have to be super cute in the next size down for me to take them home.

What do you think?  Do you like these pants?  Do you own them?  Which color would you get them in?

J.Crew: New Arrivals & My Wishlist

J.Crew released their new arrivals to the website today.  They released a number of new pieces, some that I love, and some that I don't.  There are a couple of Collection pieces that I am super in love with, and have already e-mailed my online Personal Shopper about them!  Happily, they aren't ridiculously expensive, which is always nice.

Here are my wishlist pieces from the latest set of new arrivals.  The first three are the ones I'll be looking for during my trip to my local J.Crew tomorrow (I already have the first one on hold!).

This is the Watercolor Floral Pencil Skirt.  I love the pattern on this skirt, but the description says it's 24", so I'm hoping it won't be too long.

This is the Garden Dress.  I simply love the petals on the bodice, but I'm really interested to see how this dress fits IRL, as it seems to be a tad shapeless on the model.  The Boyfriend hasn't seen this dress yet, but I can almost guarantee he will say it looks like a nightgown.

The Boyfriend will probably also make fun of the Bouquet Sash Belt, but I think it's whimsical and feminine.  Plus I love flowers!

These next pieces are ones that I will wait for to go on sale.

I love the Cashmere Croquet Cardigan.  I love love love these shades of purple, especially the contrasting shades.  I'm not as crazy about all those pockets, and I'm especially not crazy about the price.

I already have the Solid Silk Garland Cami in breeze, but I love this purple color (I love pretty much all light purples).

This is the Embossed-Cotton Printed Lorelei Dress.  I love this shade of green as well as the print, but I have a ton of dresses!

I love the Harbour Oxford Capri pants, but they have a 26.5" inseam, which is about half an inch to an inch too short for me, so I'd have to have them hemmed to get them to be true capris.  I would definitely want to see this in person.

I love these Floral Sparkle Earrings.  They seem like they could really dress up an outfit, while still being casual and cute.

I also love this Crystal-Flower Ring.  As I've mentioned, I love flowers, and I think this ring is super cute.

So what do you think? Do you like J.Crew's new arrivals?

What do you think? Do you like cargo pants? Do you like the cotton ripstop?

J.Crew: Cafe Capri Pants Review

When I was at J.Crew last week trying on clothes, I saw these cute pink pants (item #10492) on sale for $49.99. I found out later that they are J.Crew's Cafe Capri pants (city fit). I am pretty sure I saw one of the sales associates where these once in a super cute outfit, so I wanted to see how they were on me.

These pants fit true to size, but are a slim fit, especially in the hips.

I really love the color of these pants, and also love that they were $49.99 in-store (as opposed to on sale for $69.50 online, or even $79.50 regular price).

So I don't have a backside picture for you because I do not like that shot at all. Makes my rear look all weird. Sorry!

So you might wonder then why I didn't get the pants, since I like the fit, the color, and the price! This is why:

The pants were literally THISMUCH too short! Looking at the pictures, I think they look okay, but IRL, they length was literally half an inch too short. I guess even sadder is that these are supposed to be capri pants. The petite length is 3 inches shorter, but $20 more, so I'm passing for now.

What do you think? Do you like the slim fit capris? Do you like capris in general?
