J.Crew: Watercolor Floral Pencil Skirt Styling

This was an outfit my PS and I came up with together when trying to style the Watercolor Floral skirt.  It is the Victoria Ruffle Cami in the dark grey color, layered underneath a Jackie cardigan in the new breeze color.  I love the way these colors work together.  Normally I would not have thought to pair the minty green breeze color with the colors in this skirt, but I think it looks nice.

What do you think?  Do you like this combination?  What colors would you pair with the Watercolor Floral pencil skirt?

J.Crew: Solid Silk Garland Cami Review

This is J.Crew's Solid Silk Garland Cami (item #11527).  It also comes in petite (item #13345).  Both retail for $88, and are numerically sized.  It comes a pretty big variety of colors, too: light pewter, breeze, classic navy, key lime, white sand, ivory, grey, sweet lavender, and amber.  J.Crew describes the cami as such:
Silk habotai with a garland of delicate self-flowers that goes all the way around the neckline. We added a hidden button placket at the front for a sleek, seamless design. Self-ruffle collar. Import. Dry clean.
I have always liked this tank, but the price was always a bit too steep for me.  Luckily I managed to snag all of mine on some type of sale or promotion!  My PS gave this to me to try on in-store, and even though I already had it in the breeze color, I decided this might be a good chance to get some pictures for the blog, plus see how it worked iwith the Watercolor Floral Pencil skirt.

I initially tried this on in a size 4, as that is my regular top size, but it was too big.  I tried on other sizes during our Boston JCA outing, and I actually had to size down two sizes to get this to look sleek, and not really blousey.  Please note that the pictures below are a size 4 though.

The silk is a super smooth and delicate material.  I actually found snags on pretty much everyone I tried on.  I'm not sure if that's a fault of the execution, or just the nature of the material itself.  The ivory color was also pretty sheer.  Unfortunately, I didn't get to try this on in any other colors, so I'm reserving judgment on the sheerness of the tanks in general (for now).

I personally think the tank looks really sloppy untucked.  That might be because it was too big, but I just didn't really the like the way it just sort of hangs.  There are no darts or anything to create any type of waist or shape.  Interestingly, I think it looks a little more pulled together when the bottom button is undone.

I think the tank looks much better tucked in.  It still blouses nicely, but I think it just looks a little more polished.

I really like it with this skirt.  I think the small floral detail on the collar of the cami works well with the more prominent floral pattern of the skirt.

I ended up getting this cami, in a size P2, at our Boston JCA event.  It hasn't arrived yet, so hopefully I will remember to post an update when it gets here!

So what do you think?  Do you like this cami?  Which colors do you like it in?  Do you like it tucked in or untucked?  And how do you like it with this skirt?

Styling: J.Crew's Taffeta Rubgy Skirt

This is a follow-up post to the earlier review of J.Crew Outlet's version of the Taffeta Rugby skirt.  This is my suggestion for styling the retail version, but I think this would also work with the orange and grey stripes!

Styling: Dark Peony Francie Skirt

Pink & Gold

Awhile back, while waiting for my dark peony Francie skirt to arrive, I put together this Polyvore set for how I might style it. I was waiting until I wore an outfit close to this until I posted, but I don't have these shoes, clutch, or earrings, so I thought I'd post now to see what you think.

I like the monochromatic "shell" of the outfit - the dark pink skirt with the light pink cami and sweater. I think the dark, polka-dot shoes are a nice, classy look, and the yellow accessories add some nice color! Is it just me, or am I catching some fuchsia red and super yellow influences in this set?

Do you like this styling? What would you style differently? Please share!

Banana Republic: Striped Jersey Empire-Waist Dress Styling

One of my favorite color combinations is navy blue with bright pink, and the always classic white. I've added pink accessories to the previously reviewed Banana Republic Striped Jersey Empire-Waist dress for some nice color accents, and added a white belt to create a more defined waist.

Gap: Striped Shirred Skirt Styling

I am posting a couple of Polyvore sets that I have created as a follow-up to today's yesterday's review of Gap's lovely Striped Shirred Skirt (not sure why it didn't post yesterday as scheduled).

The first set is for the grey skirt, which I paired with a basic white tee, layered under J.Crew's short-sleeve yellow cardigan, accented by J.Crew's silver metallic foil bet, and a pretty blue pendant. I finished it off with some bright yellow pumps.

Sunshine Through Grey Clouds

For the pink skirt, I'd wear a bright pink basic tee, layered under a white cardigan, and use J.Crew's beaded ribbon belt as a pretty accent piece. For shoes, I'd wear some pretty flip-flops with white straps, and leave the hair nice and simple with a bright pink headband.

J.Crew: Cotton-Poplin Tie Dress Styling

Celery & Silver
Today was my first real foray into the world of Polyvore, a tool that is used and loved by many. I will continue to play around with, and post sets I create that I think are of interest, especially those for clothes I actually review.

Today's set is Celery & Silver, in which I paired yesterday's review,
J.Crew's Cotton Poplin Tie-Front Dress, with some classic accessories:

  • A J.Crew Jackie cardigan in light pewter
  • A pair of J.Crew Pippa sandals in silver
  • A pearl bracelet (photo from Forever 21)
I also wanted to add a pink headband to this set, but I didn't like any of the pictures of the headbands, so I'm just letting you know. I think a nice bright (not electric) pink headband would a nice color contrast to this outfit, and prevent it from looking bland or washing you out. (You could say it will add a nice "pop of color", but you will not ever hear me say this, because I cannot stand that phrase!)

Polyvore posts will be tagged as Polyvore, and then as the focus item(s) and brand(s). Because this set was built around the J.Crew dress, it is tagged as both JCrew and dresses.]
